Navigating the System: Need information on transition services for youth turning 18?

We're getting pretty excited here at United Cerebral Palsy of West Central WI! Why you may ask, well we are launching a series of presentations for parents of children with varying abilities called 'Navigating the System'.

As a parent of a child with varying abilities there are many hoops to jump through, trials and errors and billions of programs and services out there. We know that this can become overwhelming and confusing. One of the milestones you'll reach is when your child turns 18. You may ask yourself: 'Now what? How do I figure out guardianship? What about if my child wants to live on their own? What would it look like if they attended college?'

Well, we've thought long and hard about these circumstances and wanted to make this transition easier for you and for your child. We've gathered some of the areas professionals in various realms to give a presentation to you about what they can do to help. The cool thing is it's like a meeting set up for you and other parents (which you can connect with) without going through the hassle of setting it all up on your own. You get a free file organizer, supplies and worksheets to take home. During the presentations, attendees are encouraged to ask questions and will be given time to meet with the presenter at the end.

Now, you're probably wondering, 'Who are these magnificent people?' and 'When are these presentations?' and 'How do I sign up?' Well, we've got a schedule of presenters from August 2018 to July 2019 posted up on our website. Presenters include: Gene Tremblay a DVR Counselor, Kari Buza the CVTC Disability Specialist, Danielle Ender from the ADRC and specializes in Functional Assessment for services when over 18 and more! The presentations will be held in the Chippewa Room at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library on the last Thursday of every month from 4:30-6:00pm. Depending on availability of the space, our back up space will be Lake Street Methodist Church and will be noted when that location is used.

So there you have it. We're excited to bring these presenters to you, in a setting to network with other parents who may have similar circumstances and questions. Again, you can find more information on our website or on in our Facebook page events.
